Construction of wood-processing factories in Gyumri.
In 1991 two wood-processing and furniture manufacturing factories were constructed in the Gyumri region by benefactor and chairman of Armenian Assembly of America, Hirair Hovnanian. Gyumri, as a disaster area resulting from the 1988 earthquake in Spitak, was designated the location for construction of those factories. The goal was to produce high quality and earthquake resistant construction materials for the earthquake zone. Block-producing and woodworking shops were created and provided with American and European equipment and expertise for trainings. After construction of the factories they were generously donated to the Government of Armenia.
